inSIEC-ISBE 89TH CONVENTION at Condado Plaza Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico
July 23-28, 2017
Internationalization of Education: A How and Why Approach
Subthemes for the conference:
The 2017 Convention Program Committee has prepared a thought-provoking, and cutting-edge sessions for all teaching levels. A sampling of sessions on the 2017 program include:
Castillo de San Felipe del Morro – The Castillo de San Felipe del Morro, (more commonly known as El Morro) is Old San Juan‘s most recognizable landmark. For over 400 years, it has protected San Juan and the shipping route from the New World to the Old.
El Yunque – El Yunque, or “The Anvil,” is home to the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. A two-hour drive from San Juan, this lush, mountainous terrain is about as far removed from the city’s beaches and resorts as you can get. But that’s why people come here: to walk among the rainforest’s abundant flora; to hike along one of several trails ranging from easy walks to difficult climbs; and to dive under a waterfall. This is a part of Puerto Rico that hasn’t changed in centuries.
Vieques biobay – Vieques Biobay is one of the most amazing experiences Puerto Rico has to offer. Thanks to its geography, climate, and local conservation efforts, the Vieques Biobay is one of the most bioluminescent bays in the world.
Culebra – On tiny Culebra Island, of Puerto Rico’s eastern coast, the star attraction is generally considered to be the admittedly spectacular Flamenco Beach.
Camuy Caves – The Camuy cave system is the third largest in the world. The tour through the caves takes you through subterranean ravines to the edge of caves over 600 feet deep, as well as an underground river.
Las Cabezas de San Juan Natural Reserve – The Conservation Trust of PR owns this nature reserve in Fajardo, at the north eastern-most tip of the island. Encompassing hundreds of acres, the Conservation Trust offers tours to explain the different eco-systems that are in the reserve.
Arecibo Observatory – The Arecibo Observatory had its origins in an idea of Professor William E. Gordon, from Cornell University, who was interested in the study of the Ionosphere. Gordon’s research during the fifties led him to the idea of radar back scatter studies of the Ionosphere. Gordon’s persistence culminated in the construction of the Arecibo Observatory which began in the summer of 1960. With its 305m (1000ft) diameter dish constructed in 1963, the Arecibo Observatory continuously provides valuable data for the scientific community and the world.
Room rates at the Condado Plaza Hilton are: $129 Single/Double plus 18% resort fee (city view) ($30 additional for ocean view). Attendees can make their own reservations directly with the reservation office at phone number: 1-888-722-1273 or (787) 721-1000. It is very important that each person identify themselves as part of the UPR SIEC / ISBE Annual. Conference and Economic Conference Group or Group Code AEEO to receive the group rates.
